Hacker Forgets $1 Million Loot after Exploiting a DeFi Contract

Quick take:

  • In a strange event, a DeFi hacker leaves the hacked funds in the contract to die.
  • Zeed protocol, which suffered the attack, considers the failure as a high excitement of the hacker.

The event appears to be too good to be true. It's one of the rare occasions that could be described as a successful failure.

Hacks and exploits are nothing new in the DeFi domain. The ecosystem has been the victim of some of the greatest attacks in the crypto sector to date.

One such instance occurred with the DeFi protocol Zeed, which hackers recently attacked.

The tale of a hacker to forgot to take his loot

A recent vulnerability targeted the DeFi protocol Zeed. The hackers took advantage of Zeed's reward distribution flaw on the BSC chain. The BlockSecteam discovered the hack and warned the public through Twitter.

The attack happened around 7:15 AM UTC.

In essence, when a user swaps in a pair, the token rewards the pair by splitting the prize into three pairs. However, the project has a flaw that causes the awards to be distributed without being split into three pairs.

To get the tokens, the attacker used the pair's skim function. The awards were subsequently sold, bringing the price of the Zeed token to zero.

The exploiter's $1 million profit is held in the attack contract. "Probably he/she was too thrilled," BlockSec remarked.

The reason for the hacker's inability to move the cash has remained a mystery. Instead, it will remain a mystery involving a hacker who was intelligent enough to break a protocol but foolish enough not to take the cash.
